kitchen perspective by me

I have been working at my new job for about a month and a half. Those of you who know me will already know that I am training to be a kitchen and bath designer. I feel very lucky to have found a job within my field so soon after graduation. Although I have a lot to learn, I feel like I am in a great place with many kind and knowledgeable co-workers who really want to see me do well. It's my new goal to gain NKBA certification within the next 3 years. In the meantime, here's 3 things I like about being a kitchen and bath designer (in training).

1. I am given the freedom to draw by hand! This is something I wasn't expecting to be able to do when I was job hunting, since most employers use AutoCAD, Revit,  or 20-20 as standard. I am proficient in computer programs, but to me, nothing beats the final look of a drawing done by hand. Especially for presentation purposes.

2. I am actually starting to like math! If you asked me in high school which subject I hated to most, the answer would have definitely been mathematics. But I'm finding when math has a clear purpose (pricing, measuring, etc.) I enjoy doing it!

3. The opportunity to work directly with clients - even though I was quite shy as a child, through my college jobs as an Admissions Ambassador and as a Sales Associate, I've found a love for helping people solve their problems. Whereas before it was helping to choose a college or a paint color, now I am helping to create the most functional and beautiful kitchen for my clients.
