Haines Hotel Project | Unit 3C
2016 was a big year for Stevie Storck Design Co.! I took my design business full-time in April and had the chance to work with so many amazing clients. Back in September, I started working with Royal Square Development & Construction on their Haines Hotel project. This historic hotel is located in the heart of downtown York, on the corner of George and W. Philadelphia Street. RSDC is in the process of renovating the 5 story brick building into a modern, apartment building with a few units set aside for short-term rentals via Airbnb. That's where I came in! I was tasked with designing two 1 bedroom apartments in a vibrant, modern and fresh style on a budget. I'm so excited with how this project turned out, and we have designs for a few other spaces in the Haines Hotel in the works! I'm sharing the first unit today, and the second tomorrow so stay tuned!
Our goal with this project was to create a base design that could be repeated, but customized with different colors, artwork and accessories to give each unit a distinct personality. For Unit 3C, I envisioned a rich, layered color scheme that felt modern, bohemian and bright. The colorful area rug was my jumping off point, because I loved the tribal-inspired pattern in shades of orange, magenta, robin's egg blue and navy. My long-time blog readers will know that I'm a big fan of neutrals for my own home, but it was so fun to stretch my design muscles and work in a more vibrant, fun style! What makes it all work is the thoughtful distribution of color (cool blue chairs temper the fiery rug) and a dose of neutral black, white and silver to balance it all out.
"The Key to My Heart/Wifi" print was hand-lettered by me! Available as an instant download printable. Get yours, here!
As I'm getting busier with my business, I'm trying something a little different with sharing sources on the blog. As a part of their final deliverables, my clients receive a custom Pinterest Board to make it super easy to do their online shopping. I'm linking to the board for Unit 3C below:
To finish off the apartment, I used a mix of vintage, new and handmade items from local shops here in York, plus pieces from my own collection Thrifted by SSDC. Here's a quick rundown!
Redeux Marketplace - 113 S. Duke Street | orange tray, vintage road sign
Finders Keepers - 2811 E. Prospect Road | small blue Pfaltzgraff pitcher (made in York, PA!)
Ross - 2855 Concord Road | Woven basket, white faux fur throw blanket
Thrifted by SSDC | wooden pineapple tray, milkglass planter, small ceramic bowl, fabric bound books, vintage alarm clock, vintage National Geographic illustrated map/poster, blue afghan
My new "The Key to My Heart/Wifi Password" Art Print is currently available at Revolt Style Studio at 24 N. Beaver Street or as a printable download, here.
And lastly, if you are traveling to York Pennsylvania this year for business (or pleasure!), or if you're a local looking for accommodations to recommend to out of town guests, you can book this unit on Airbnb, right here!
