My Favorite Greenhouses & Plant Nurseries in York County, PA
With our last frost date fast approaching, I’ve been getting asked more frequently about where I buy plants for my garden. So I thought I’d put together a post of all my favorite independent greenhouses and plant nurseries in York County, Pennsylvania!
I do my best to shop at locally owned, family-run small businesses, and here in York we are lucky to have a plethora of them! This is not an exhaustive list of all the greenhouses in our area, just a list of my personal favorites for one reason or another, in no particular order.
Each of the following greenhouses and nurseries carry a range of plants including vegetables, herbs, annual and perennial flowers and grasses and some also offer shrubs and trees too. I’ve included a short description of what I like to shop for at each one, their address and a link to their website where you can learn more.

Pheasant Run Greenhouse
10341 Brillhart Road, Glen Rock, PA 17327
This is where I get most of my perennials! I find most garden centers sell perennials in gallon size nursery pots but Pheasant Run sells a wide variety of plants in smaller, quart size pots at the best prices I’ve seen around. I am patient so I’m okay with buying younger plants and waiting for them to fill out over the course of a season if that means I can buy more plants for my money!
Heartwood Nursery
8957 Hickory Road, Felton, PA 17322
Heartwood is a woman-owned, independent nursery that specializes in native trees, shrubs and perennials and is my very favorite place to shop. The extensive grounds are preserved through the Farm and Natural Lands Trust of York County and the owner, Sue Hunter has dedicated the last 3 decades to reforesting a large percentage of the property with native species indigenous to the area. You don’t want to miss Heartwood’s annual Serviceberry Festival in June!
Riddle’s Greenhouse
4165 Mt Pisgah Road, York, PA 17406
If you plant a lot annuals or make your own container combinations, you need to check out Riddle’s! They have an incredible selection of well priced annuals in every color scheme you can imagine. They carry a lot of Proven Winners brand plants, which are known for outstanding performance and disease resistance. This is where I’m shopping for my own hanging baskets this year!
JP Croft Greenhouse
1017 Delta Road, Red Lion, PA 17356
The girls and I frequent JP Croft because they have a big selection and they are right in our neighborhood! They are an especially great place to shop for succulents, hanging baskets, vegetables and annuals in market packs. They grow their own mums right there on their farm, so I make sure to pick up a few every fall!
Miller Plant Farm
430 Indian Rock Dam Road, York, PA 17403
Miller is a family-owned business that’s a fantastic, one-stop shop for pretty much any plants and supplies you need for your garden. They have an extensive selection inside their greenhouse and I always see really beautiful, unique shade and sun perennial varieties there. They also have a market with produce and baked goods as well as a CSA that runs from June through November if that’s something you’re interested in!
