Craft Your Own Yule Log

Christie Altland will share some history and customs around the Winter Solstice, then guide us in creating our own festive Yule logs. We will have fresh greens, dried oranges, cinnamon sticks, dried herbs, and more to decorate our logs. Additionally, we will share any traditional/symbolic meanings associated with each item to help us create meaningful centerpieces to bring into our homes for the holiday season.

The Sharing Table

For our sharing table this time, we are encouraging you to bring something to add to our table of yule log decorations. Maybe you can trim a few branches from an evergreen in your (or a loved one’s!) backyard, harvest some dried elements from your winter garden, dry some slices of apple or citrus fruit, or bring some spare ribbon from your stash of craft supplies. Feel free to get creative here! And bonus points if you look up any symbolism associated with the item you bring. (Remember: the Sharing Table is optional, but encouraged. If you don’t have time to gather something to bring, please don’t let that stop you from participating.) In the spirit of generosity, we will also be holding a canned food drive for Community Reach, Inc., which serves individuals and families in the Dallastown, Red Lion, and East York areas. Food + Drink

We will have a spread of seasonal snacks and refreshments, including charcuterie, soup, bread, dessert, and hot spiced apple cider. Somewhere between heavy snacks/light dinner!

Additional Notes

We are meeting in an enclosed pavilion with a wood-burning fireplace. The fire will take the edge off the cold, but I encourage you to dress in warm layers, appropriate for the weather forecast that day.

We will be meeting in the Hidden Laurel Picnic Area at Rocky Ridge. The Pheasant pavilion is located between the parking lot and the playground area. It’s about 200 feet away from the restrooms and it is ADA accessible!
