Celebrating the Season

We’ll kick off our gathering by sharing some information about the cross-quarter holiday, known traditionally as the fire festival of Beltane and in more modern contexts as May Day. Next, we will go around the table sharing brief introductions along with what we are most excited about this season, whether that’s something we are growing, making, doing, or a place we love to return to at this time of year. This is something we do at every CQC event, because it is so enlivening to hear what everyone else is excited about, and there are always new ideas learned and new connections made during this time!

Create Your Own Garden-Style Centerpiece

Stevie Storck and Sharon de Beaumont are teaming up to celebrate Sharon’s last spring in Pennsylvania. Flower arranging has been a popular workshop for Cross Quarter Club in years past, and we are bringing it back with a new twist for this spring! Stevie is collecting a variety of bowl, cube, and pedestal style vases for us to fill with all the beautiful blooms that the May garden at Little Farm Flowers East has to offer. Participants will receive their choice of vessel, and all the stems needed to arrange a one-of-a-kind garden-style centerpiece. Stevie will share arranging tips from her floral craft book, published back in 2020.

The Sharing Table: Garden Plant Swap

Have extras of what you’ve grown from seed this spring? Maybe you just divided your perennials and have more than you can keep in your own garden? Bring along one (or more) plants or seedlings along to trade! Plants purchased at local greenhouses and farm stands are also welcome. There will be a table set aside for the swap: drop off your seedling there when you arrive then choose something new to take home with you before you leave!

Food + Drink

We will have a spread of seasonal snacks and refreshments, including charcuterie, soup, bread, dessert, and a selection of hot teas. Somewhere between heavy snacks/light dinner!

Additional Notes

The pavilion is semi-enclosed and this is a rain or shine event. Early May can be unpredictable so I suggest bringing an extra layer to wear if it gets chilly. It has often rained at our spring gatherings in years past, and with the sound of raindrops on the tin roof of the pavilion and hot tea to sip, it’s really cozy and wonderful!

Link to Yoe Park on Google Maps

We will have the entire picnic pavilion, with use of the kitchen and bathrooms. There are parking lot at the top of the hill when you arrive at the park, and also a limited number of spaces right in front of the pavilion which can be accessed by the gravel lane that bisects the park.
