Designer Talk | Mary Meyer Interiors
I don't know about you, but I find so much home design inspiration on Instagram. I always joke that the photos in my feed are 99% furniture and decor, 1% actual people. I love being able to see what other designers and DIY'ers are up to, and I especially love it when I get to connect with a kindred spirit in the interior design world. Today, I'm thrilled to introduce you guys to Mary Meyer, of Mary Meyer Interiors and the blog I Like It Lovely! Mary is an interior designer and E-designer from Long Island, NY. We recently met through Instagram and were instantly drawn to each others design aesthetic and DIY mindset. Take a look at Mary's own Nursery to see why:

So good, right?! We thought it would be fun to do a little Q&A session with each other, on design & DIY. Read on to learn a little more about Mary's style and work and then click here to see my interview on her blog, I Like It Lovely.
Q: What influenced you most in making the decision to be a designer? Buying our first home was the most inspirational thing that gave me the inkling I was in the wrong field at the time. I really have to give credit though to my friends and family for giving me the push I needed to get back to school and turn my passion to my career.
Q: What is your favorite design style and why? I love a good mix of styles. However, my absolute favorite is modern and vintage together. I think that anything vintage or antique brings a certain vibe and little soul like something new could never bring. I love a beautiful traditional dentil moulding paired with a Serge Mouille light fixture. Or an antique chair paired with a Jonathan Adler Dora Maar vase.
Q: What colors do you love to use when designing a space for yourself? As the great Julia Roberts (Shelby in Steel Magnolias) once said "My colors are Blush and Bashful.” I love PINK but I also love a really saturated blue or green. I’m not afraid of buying a colorful sofa because color is the essence of who I am as a designer. When accessorizing, I gravitate towards black and white to use as accents.

Q: Who would be your dream client? I would love to work with someone who I can push the boundaries completely with. I've had a few clients that trust me but never fully completely trust themselves. Do something bold. Push the boundaries and I promise it will be a win!
Q: If you could do anything else other than design what would it be? Paleontology or be the owner of an antique store or be a floral designer. In that order.
Q: What has been your favorite DIY project? I once painted a velour chair and it came out pretty fantastic. I also painted a Dorothy Draper style chest that was my aunt’s (with the guidance of a beloved uncle who has since recently passed) and so for sentimental reasons that is one of my favorite projects.
I hope you enjoyed getting to know Mary & her work as much as I have! I'm all about supporting other creative small business owners, so I'm excited to connect with and introduce you guys to more awesome designers, artists and makers in the coming months.
